Planting more trees makes the factory area greener
Digging, supporting seedlings, cultivating soil, watering… Every year on the Arbor Day, Fangda Jiugang will organize volunteers to carry out themed Arbor Day activities. Since 2018, Fangda Jiugang has invested a lot of money to plant more than 300,000 trees and shrubs such as camphor trees, ginkgoes, sweet-scented osmanthus, palm sunflower, camellia, and red-leaved heather in the factory area, and lay about 300,000 square meters of turf. The 4,000-meter Yangtze River embankment and the 29,000-square-meter flood control dam wetland were repaired with green bank slope protection, and the green area rate of the factory area reached 30%. Among them, in 2022 alone, more than 1,000 seasonal flower-appreciating plants will be planted, 10,000 square meters of green turf will be laid, and 1,500 square meters of four-season flowers will be planted. According to Ye Zhigang, the on-site manager of the Environmental Protection Department of Fangda Jiugang, in order to do a good job in the maintenance of green plants in the factory area, the company has specially equipped 10 cleaning vehicles to carry out watering, cleaning, and sewage suction every day. At the same time, the enterprise irregularly organizes maintenance work such as removal of weeds and dead branches, fertilization, and pest control. In 2022, the company will complete the daily maintenance of 383,700 square meters and 16,000 green seedlings. The plant seedlings are thriving, and the sky is bluer with less emissions

In recent years, Fangda Jiugang has taken the initiative to implement the requirements of the national “Opinions on Promoting the Implementation of Ultra-low Emissions in the Iron and Steel Industry”, and actively promoted the construction of ultra-low emission transformation projects in various processes. The company’s No. 3 blast furnace casthouse dust removal ultra-low emission renovation project was put into operation, so that the dust emission generated by the No. 3 blast furnace reached the ultra-low emission standard. “From 2016 to 2022, we have invested a huge amount of money and completed the construction of more than 80 ultra-low emission and environmental protection improvement projects,” said Bu Zhiliang, minister of the company’s environmental protection department, full of confidence in the company’s ultra-low emission work.
At the same time, Fangda Jiugang actively implements the goal of “double carbon” and promotes technical projects such as “steam to electricity” and “oil to electricity”. For example, the 125-megawatt ultra-high temperature subcritical turbogenerator set that will be put into operation in 2021 will use the gas from the original waste gas for power generation, which is expected to save 400,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.046 million tons per year. The company invested 157 million yuan to implement a clean transportation project to upgrade fuel vehicle transportation to electric vehicle transportation, which is expected to reduce diesel consumption by 880 tons and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,800 tons per year.
